I never really thought that any of the recipes or photographs from all those cards could exist in the 21st Century. Until this evening.

At a celebration function for the charity for which I volunteer, I was served this as the main course, vegetarian option.

Barely enough to fill a well-fed child, this purports to be "mushroom risotto". In fact it was vaguely cheese-flavoured rice-pudding with bits of mushroom. Quite, quite vile.

The event was held in a very grand banqueting hall called "The Barony" at Strathclyde University, served very efficiently and pleasantly by silver-service waiting staff and everyone had dressed up. What a shame that the caterers saw fit to serve up this slop.
